Applications due on Feb 19 for new affordable senior citizen housing in Greenburgh near Community College
APPLICATIONS DUE ON FEBRUARY 19 FOR LOTTERY -AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR SENIORS --lottery on March 2
how to apply: hac@affordablehomes.org
On Sunday, I took a drive to the former Westhelp homeless shelter in the Mayfair Knollwood secdtion of Greenburgh which is now being converted into 74 fair and affordable rental apartments for seniors 62 years and older. The developer is offering one and two bedroom apartments for $943 to $2,264 a month. 6 studios; 60 one bedrooms; 8 two bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchens and energy star rated appliances. Studios are 435 Sq feet; the one bedroom apartments range in size from 629 to 692 Sq feet and the two bedroom apartments 805 square feet to 898 Sq feet. All have cable hook up. No fee parking is available. The Greenburgh Town Board worked hard to make this happen -as did the county of Westchester. The Mayfair Knollwood Civic Association also worked with the town and county on this initiative. Senior housing is needed -this complex will be a great asset to our town.
There will be a community room with computer workspace, exercise and office space and a laundry center. Five of the units are fully accessible for persons with mobility impairment; 3 are fully accessible for persons with hearing or vision impairment and 20 apartments are set aside for elderly with special needs.
I was impressed - the buildings are beautiful, residents will enjoy living in a non urban setting and will be within walking distance of the Community College.
Because the demand is so great a lottery will be held for the apartments. The Housing Action Council is overseeing a lottery. Their phone is 332-4144. The deadline for the application is February 19, 2021. Over the past few years I have contacted the applicant with names and e mails of residents who want to be considered. They will be contacted. The developer is Marathon Development Group, a full service real estate company that manages affordable housing all over the county.
