ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW The Greenburgh Nature Center’s mission is “to ignite passion, curiosity, and respect for our natural world.” We have been inspiring children and adults in the southern Westchester region to protect the natural world for 45 years. The organization has annual revenues of approximately $1.3m and a staff of 14. Our talented team of naturalists and educators offer experiential educational programs on our unique 33 acres of greenspace oasis and provide sustainability leadership to schools and municipalities in the local community. The organization has strong support from the Town of Greenburgh, a committed board, and an engaged volunteer corps that has enabled the organization to adapt well in a transitional year. The Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization to its next stage, including overseeing the development of a forward thinking 2025 Strategic Plan, strengthening the Nature Center’s revenue model, building core board engagement, as well as strengthening community relationships with Greenburgh and other local municipalities.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS Dynamic leader who is passionate about our mission, will serve as a powerful advocate for the organization, and strategically and collaboratively tap into emerging opportunities. Leadership and Strategic Skills • Ability to provide transformational leadership as a catalyst to innovations helping us get to the next level. • Demonstrated success with both long-term strategic planning and short-term contingency planning, always while engaging constituents and generating community support for the organization’s mission. • Commitment to environmental conservation and education. 2 of 2 12/17/20 • Ability to communicate the significance of an organization's local mission in the larger global context of climate change and offer a responding vision of potential growth of organization. • Knowledge of and/or connections to our geographic area. • Passionate, creative, resilient, respectful, inclusive, self-aware, humble, honest, organized, and committed. Nonprofit Management Skills • Nonprofit management experience in successfully developing teamwork, clarifying systems and organizational structures, and cultivating leadership amongst staff and board. • Demonstrated success in managing a nonprofit with a budget of at least $1 million, including fiscal oversight, collaboration with senior staff, and program development. • Demonstrated strategic fundraising experience to generate diversified funding and strengthen the business model. • Successfully managed communications plan for that supported both fundraising, marketing, and constituent growth. • Experience in negotiating complex organizational relationships, including partnering with town governments and school districts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS •At least ten years of progressive, relevant senior-level nonprofit leadership, preferably having served as an executive of a comparable nonprofit. • Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. COMPENSATION • Salary range depending on qualifications and experience is $110-125K with benefits.
