TWO NEW SIDEWALKS --ONE UNDER CONSTRUCTION ON OLD TARRYTOWN ROAD AND MANHATTAN AVE
PLANNING HAS BEGUN FOR SIDEWALK ON HILLSIDE FROM TOWN HALL TO NORTH ROAD
Recently construction of a new sidewalk began on portions of Old Tarrytown Road and Manhattan Avenue. This project is funded with a combination of a Community Development Block Grant, State Aid Municipal funding, and a local Town allocation. The sidewalk project will fill in approximately 1,900 linear feet (0.35 miles) of sidewalk gaps and is described as follows: Old Tarrytown Road (north side connecting Residences at Tarryhill to Old Tarrytown Parklet via crosswalk; south side from Maple St. beyond Manhattan Avenue to Washington) and Manhattan Avenue (from Old Tarrytown Road to Oak St.). Work will continue until such time as weather permits (a pause in construction is anticipated if temperatures are projected to be low/freezing for a duration). If an extended winter break is needed, construction would be anticipated to be complete spring 2021. The sidewalk will be 5 feet wide in most locations and in limited instances 4 feet. When complete, a continuous connection of sidewalks will exist on Manhattan Avenue from Rt. 119 to old Tarrytown Road, with continuity east to Hillside Avenue providing enhanced pedestrian access to Town Hall, the Theodore D. Young Center, Old Tarrytown Road Parklet. The design of the sidewalks (grass strip, small reduction in lane width), and flashing beacons/crosswalks will promote further traffic calming (reduced vehicular speeds) increasing safety for residents, and will be consistent with safety recommendations made by an independent engineering firm.
The Town is also in the process of coordinating construction design and construction of another major sidewalk gap, from Town Hall to North Road. A $1,000,000 grant for this project was awarded to the Town of Greenburgh, with construction scheduled end of 2021, into 2022.
