Those who receive exemptions would have to remove cars from roads before any projected snow

GREENBURGH POLICE CHIEF TALKS TO TOWN BOARD ABOUT MODIFYING SNOW PARKING ORDINANCE TO ALLOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS (LACK OF PARKING SPACE, DISABILITIES) TO PARK ON TOWN STREETS BETWEEN DEC 1 AND MARCH 15TH UNLESS IT SNOWS

Last week I invited residents to comment on our snow  parking ordinance - prohibiting cars from parking on town streets between December 1 and March 15th. I received many comments (posted them on the website of the town 11/13-without names or e mail addresses) from residents --pro and con.  Many residents have commented that they don't have a large enough driveway for their cars and the current ordinance creates problems for their family. They point out that in recent years it doesn't snow every week - they feel they should be able to park their cars on streets when snow is not anticipated.

At our Town Board work session on November 11th Police Chief Chris McNerney discussed a compromise proposal. Keep the  current ordinance but authorize residents who have special needs (disabilities, lack of parking spaces at their driveway) to obtain an exemption. They could apply for a permit which the police would review.  If a permit is issued and the owner does not remove the car when there is an anticipated snow storm the car will be towed.

You can watch the discussion by clicking onto the link . The Town Board will discuss the criteria with the Police Chief next Tuesday at our work session and could vote at our next Town Board meeting on November 24. Those who receive exemptions from the police would be required to move their car when a snow is predicted.
