[ARCHIVED] Response from NYS -suggestion: testing of sewers to measure level of COVID

Sewers are being tested around the nation to get a measure of level of COVID. Have asked NYS and Westchester to consider testing sewers in Westchester

Response from NYS Health Dept--POOP testing of sewers to get a measure of level of CO VID. Recently I sent NYS and the county a letter suggesting  sewer testing to  indirectly get a rough measure of the level of COVID 19 in the local population without having to test all the people individually. This information can then be used to guide decisions about the safety of  opening schools, businesses, etc. This is the response I received from the NYS Health Department. PAUL FEINER Supervisor Feiner, Thank you for your letter regarding wastewater COVID-19 testing.  Please see the Governor’s press release below. The Department is engaged in a pilot program in Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and Newburgh. One of the potential outcomes of this pilot is to determine how and if this can be expanded on a broader scale throughout the state. https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-announces-new-testing-initiatives-improve-covid-19-detection-control-across-new Best- Michelle Newman Deputy Director Office of Governmental Affairs NYS Department of Health
