An Irvington senior is starting a volleyball camp this weke.
A rising senior at Irvington High School is starting a volleyball camp for this week. I think it’s great that students are being creative and coming up with interesting business ideas during this difficult time in our history: COVID-19. This is an opportunity for students and adults who are creative to come up with interesting initiatives that can help residents overcome the frustrations and challenges of the pandemic. Feel free to share other innovative initiatives with me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com. It’s nice to recognize talented students. The volleyball camp will be held from Monday, August 24th through Friday, August 28th from 900 AM - 1100 AM each morning at the "Life is the Place to Be" center in Ardsley, New York. The cost is $200 per child (ages 6-17 of any skill level are welcome) with an extra $100-$200 cost if you need door-to-door transportation. (depending on how far your child lives from the camp) The number of children who are participating will be limited due to health and safety restrictions imposed by NYS.For more information or questions regarding the camp, people can e-mail Laila Zuckerman at lifevolleyballcamp@gmail.com or call/text them at 1-914-860-6221. Please contact them to see if there are additional camp times.
Laila’s Statement:
"My name is Laila Zukerman and I am a rising senior at Irvington High School and I am 17. I have played volleyball since I was 6 and I have so much passion for it. Since 7th grade I have played on the downstate national teams. I am an all league and all conference athlete. I love to teach children. I have been a babysitter all of high school as well as a dance teacher for 7-11 year old kids. My friend and I wanted to make this camp as an attempt to make something good out of the very tough circumstances we are in. We wanted to run a two hour a day one week skills camp to not only be able to bond with kids but also give them an outlet from home. I have taught and played volleyball for a very long time and I want to pass on my passion to our local youth. If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it is to try new things. That’s our goal for this camp, to have children with no experience or high experience to discover the passion I have for the sport. I have been a leader in a many settings. I have been a captain on all of my national teams as well as a captain on my varsity team. I have been a character building facilitator working with middle school kids as well as a peer leader this upcoming year. I have held roles in student council in the past and all of these experiences have made me suitable for your kids to learn from."
