questions and answers from assessors about reassessment. The town assessor, Edye McCarthy met with the Town Board recently to discuss reassessment. The Town Board had passed a law requiring reassessment every 4-6 years. Taxpayers won’t pay taxes based on the new assessments until 2022. Last time there was a reassessment was in 2016. The assessor, in the you tube video posted below, mentioned that there should not be significant shifts because the last reassessment was done recently and because her office has been updating rolls annually--so that assessments would reflect full market rates. The last time we reassessed there were significant shifts because we hadn’t reassessed in 60 years. And, many properties were paying more or less than equivalent properties. By conducting a reassessment now - we don’t have to conduct interior inspections on most properties. If we waited we would have had to spend the extra dollars to conduct inspections. We also can use current county fly over info - something we would have had to pay extra for if we waited.
