new hydrant rental water fee also being paid for by non profits

The Town Board at the request of the Fire districts now does not charge the fire districts a hydrant rental fee, which will save taxpayers fire district taxes. The hydrant fee is now being added to water bills. Non profits now have to contribute.

Some people have asked me...why is there a new fire hydrant maintenance fee on the water bill?

The Town Board resolved that the fire hydrant maintenance fees previously collected on property tax bills and via fire protection district billing will now be collected on the Greenburgh Consolidated Water District #1 water bills. The fees are billed at a rate of $0.39 per 1,000 gallons of water for quarterly billing and a flat fee of $36.83 per month for monthly billing. The fee appears on the quarterly bill as rate code HDQ and monthly bills as rate code HDM.

This action was taken at the request of the paid fire districts which had previously been billed by the town for fire hydrant costs. The fire district taxes won’t be as high because they won’t have to pay the town the rental fees.  Non profits don’t pay property taxes (fire district, town, school taxes). But, they do pay water bills.  There are many non profit facilities in the fire districts (religious institutions, schools, not for profit groups). They will now share the costs of this expense. In the past they did not pay this expense.
