[ARCHIVED] donation of air conditioner for family in need highlights why Greenburgh is such a great place

An air conditioner in an older residents co-op apartment broke. The husband is disabled in a hospital bed. Residents We were able to obtain a donated air conditioner. Greg Khitrov, Captain of the Ardsley Secor Ambulance Corp installed the unit

About two weeks ago a constituent who resides in a co-op in Greenburgh reached out to me. Her husband, in his mid 80s, is disabled in a hospital bed at home. She has an aide in the other bedroom. The air conditioner blew, was not working and she could not afford to purchase a new air conditioner at this time.  She asked if there were government programs to help.  There are none, to the best of my knowledge.

I posted a request for help on facebook, Nextdoor and other social media. To my pleasant surprise - a number of residents responded within minutes. Some offered unused air conditioners they had in their home. Others offered to donate to the cause.  A local business that sells air conditioners offered to donate one.  Greg Khitrov, Captain of the Ardsley- Secor Ambulance Corp read about the problem and did much more. He reached out to the co-op because  the co-op had some restrictions as to the kind of unit that would be acceptable.  He worked with the maintenance person in measuring the opening and then volunteered his time installing the air conditioner for the woman.   The air conditioner was installed yesterday, thanks to Greg Khitrov’s hard work and desire to help others.  I should point out that the couple doesn’t even live in the Ardsley-Secor Ambulance corp district. Greg refused to accept any money for his services.

One of the reasons why I love Greenburgh is because there are so many nice people who live in our community. Those who offered to help the couple even though they never met them deserve to be commended.  Greg Khitrov represents the kind of person who volunteers for the Ardsley Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corp--he cares about the community.  And, is on call 24 hours a day --willing to help neighbors (and in this case non neighbors)  in distress.   If you’d like to donate to the Ardsley Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corp the link to their website is below. Info about the corp is also below.  The Ardsley Secor Ambulance Corp provides services to residents of Ardsley and the Ardsley School distdrict and operates on donations.  The corp is made up of volunteers and is always looking for new members. Members will train anyone interested and only require a new recruit to have CPR, standard first aid and a desire to help others.
