Dear Citizens of the Town of Greenburgh,

The tragic death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 while in police custody is an affront to decency and is the antithesis of the police mission. The egregious actions of these officers have been condemned by all of us who serve in law enforcement and they must be held accountable.

I speak for all the officers of the Town of Greenburgh Police Department that such misconduct committed by any of us who have sworn an oath to serve and protect shall not be tolerated. Within our core values as a department is the first tenet, “We value human life above all else.” The actions of a few should not reflect upon the police officers of the Town of Greenburgh who are dedicated to fulfilling their duty each and every day.

The Town of Greenburgh Police Department has adopted and practiced community based policing for over a quarter of a century. Our commitment to the community we serve is based on a partnership that has helped to foster mutual respect and trust. During these challenging times it is critical that we continue to work together and maintain open lines of communication. We are a police department that is reflective of the community we serve. Our diversity is our strength.

On behalf of the men and women of the Greenburgh Police Department know that we are committed to providing fair and impartial policing and will continue to work with our faith based groups, civic groups, and community to ensure the Town of Greenburgh remains a safe and welcoming place for all. We honor our pledge to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Brian J. Ryan
