Many people who enjoy our trails, parks are not practicing social distancing or wearing masks. Dangerous for people who have medical issues. The town is sponsoring a mask only, social distancing requirement every Tuesday morning from 8 AM to 10:30 AM
IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY A HIKING TRAIL AND PARK WHERE EVERYONE IS COMPLYING WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING AND MASKS
EVERY TUESDAY FROM 8 AM TO 10:30 am at Hartsbrook Nature Preserve, Ridge Road, Hartsdale
The Town of Greenburgh Department of Parks and Recreation beginning this Tuesday and every Tuesday thereafter an opportunity for the public to experience the Harts Brook Park and Preserve from 8am to 10:30am where all participants must wear mask or face covering at all times, maintain social distancing at all times and park patrons not complying will be asked to leave the park. There will be full time recreation supervisors on site during that time to enforce these rules.
I have received complaints from residents who want to enjoy state, county, town trails that not everyone wears masks or complies with social distancing. Some residents, especially those with compromised immune issues, worry about catching COVID-19 from residents who are careless or insensitive. This special mask only, social distancing time slot at one park will provide those who want to be extra careful with the ability to enjoy nature and not to worry about catching the virus from others.
AN EXCERPT FROM AN E MAIL I RECEIVED LAST NIGHT FROM A RESIDENT OF HARTSDALE--HIGHLIGHTING FACT THAT MASKS ARE NOT BEING WORN IN PARKS (this is happening at county parks, state parks, town parks). Social distancing is also not happening at many locations. This is the excerpt:
"Since the pandemic and the closing of my gym, I have been walking every day, with a mask when around others, on the various Westchester park trails. Now that the weather is nicer, many others have been taking advantage of these wonderful trails for walking, bicycling and jogging, which is good.
However, with the warm weather most joggers and cyclist DO NOT WEAR MASKS. Today I walked the path along the Bronx River and of the 50 or so joggers and cyclist that past me almost none had a mask over their nose and mouth.
It is understandable that many of these people are young and fit, and that the masks are uncomfortable in this heat when doing strenuous exercise, but it is this very exercise and speed of movement that generates and spreads more droplets possibly to those around them.
IT IS CRITICAL THAT JOGGERS AND CYCLISTS WEAR MASK FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL."
IF YOU ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT COVID-19 THINK AGAIN --PEOPLE ARE STILL DYING EVERY DAY AND GETTING SICK
The following link is from a discussion Greenburgh librarian Vincent Bonacci had with the Greenburgh Town Board this past Wednesday. Vincent, who has some cerebral palsy talked about how scared he was when his temperature rose and when he started coughing and experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19 in the you tube link. Fortunately, Vincent survived. Over 100,000 people in the United States did not.
