[ARCHIVED] Hungry? Dobbs Ferry Food pantry serves the less fortunate at 343 Broadway, DF

the Dobbs Ferry Food Pantry at South Presbyterian Church in Dobbs Ferry, 343 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, has continued to be open every Wednesday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and noon throughout the pandemic.  We serve Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Irvington and Greenburgh.  dobbsferrypantry@gmail.com

Since the church is closed, clients can’t come in and browse through our foods to choose what they want.  Instead, every Wednesday there is a table set up outside the office doors, staffed by Pantry volunteers wearing masks and gloves.  Clients line up near the table, with volunteers making sure everybody is wearing a mask and is standing six feet away from the person in front and the person behind.  Each person steps up to the table and receives a Stop & Shop gift card (if they live in the area we serve) and a pre-packed bag or box of food, mostly supplied by Feeding Westchester.  The table is then sanitized and the next person steps up.

During this pandemic we have seen nearly triple the number of people we usually serve, and we’ve seen people coming from many different areas of Westchester.  Many people are coming to a food pantry for the first time in their lives.  Although people from other areas don’t receive a gift card, we won’t send anybody away empty-handed.  Everyone will get a bag or box of food.  In addition, we’ve been helped by local restaurants and caterers.  Harper’s Restaurant in Dobbs Ferry comes every Wednesday with prepared food for everybody, and recently Dobbs Ferry caterer MadeByRK has been coming with soup and bread, again enough for everybody.  Other donors have brought bread and yogurt.

It’s been expensive to offer gift cards to our clients, but we feel it enables them to then go to Stop & Shop and buy what they need after seeing what we’ve put into the bags.  We need people who care about helping food-insecure families at this time to make monetary donations to our website at www.dobbsferrypantry.org, using the PayPal feature.  We’ll be happy to accept checks as well, made out to the Dobbs Ferry Food Pantry and mailed to South Presbyterian Church at the above address.

This food pantry is fantastic. Very dedicated volunteers helping out. They don’t waste dollars. A very caring organization.
