CLAP AND CHEER THE ARDSLEY SECOR AMBULANCE CORP--A GROUP OF VERY DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WHO RISK THEIR LIVES FOR ALL OF US DURING COVID19

In recent weeks Americans have shown support for emergency responders by clapping, ring and howling , cheering for first responders in the fight against COVID 19 every night at 7 PM.  The clapping gesture began in Europe.Besides clapping we should recognize the dedicated service of many volunteer firefighters and Ambulance corp members who risk their lives and don’t even get paid for their bravery and service. Greg Khitrov is Captain of the Ardsley Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corp.  During the day, nights, weekends and holidays he and his volunteers are there for all of us - serving the medical needs of the community. This is his statement:

"As we have since 1962 the volunteers of ASVAC continue to serve the medical needs of our community.  In order to keep our members as safe as possible, we have asked our volunteers over 65, and our junior corps members to temporarily stop responding as they are the most vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.  To keep the rest of volunteers as safe as possible we have stopped in-person meetings and training moving to virtual discussions.  We have procured hazardous material clothing and appropriate PPE through the help of the Village, the Town, the County, and local donors.  We have trained all of our members on the proper procedures for donning and doffing the suits and provide on-going safety training every week.  After each call we disinfect the ambulance thoroughly, and 3 times a week we do extra cleaning of the vehicles and the building.
To keep our patients safe we respond in full PPE and immediately place a mask on any patient.  We keep up to date with the latest information on the pandemic and have been updating our website with important information related to the virus.
ASVAC is a 100% all-volunteer organization.  While this situation is not what we expected when we signed on, it is something we have trained for and we remain committed to providing the best medical care possible.  We are not government funded, meaning we receive no tax dollars,  and we rely heavily on the generosity of our neighbors.  Our expenses for PPE and other protective equipment have skyrocketed during this time and we would appreciate donations of money, medical grade surgical masks, N95 masks, gowns and shields.
Please let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help you with the town of greenburgh"
The Ardsley Secor Ambulance Corp is located at 19 American Legion Drive, Ardsley, NY 10502.  They serve Ardsley and parts of unincorporated Greenburgh. There are other volunteer ambulance corps in the villages--we appreciate all of them.PAUL FEINER
