Residents who comply with certain hardship conditions can pay taxes till July 15.
To have the fee waived, the resident or business must certify economic hardship caused by COVID-19. The conditions are listed in the text below
The Governor signed an executive order allowing late payments without penalties till July 15 under certain circumstances (hardships, escrow account payments still must be paid, people have to qualify for STAR)
To have the fee waived, the resident or business must certify economic hardship caused by COVID-19. The threshold for the certification requires in part that a resident must have qualified for the STAR exemption, is not paying property taxes through an escrow account and can assert that they have suffered loss of substantial employment income as a result of COVID-19. I discussed this with other Town Supervisors today. We are asking the county to set the criteria , clearly define what hardships are and to create a form that all town governments in Westchester can use. We will be having a conference call with the County Executive tomorrow. I will provide residents with updated info as I receive it.
County, town and fire district taxes are due April 30th for people who don’t qualify. We hope that this order will help many residents.
