Earlier today,  the county got some bad news:  A New Rochelle resident had tested positive for Coronavirus and is hospitalized. The resident had attended functions at Congregation of Young Israel of New Rochelle. Hundreds of residents  who attended the functions with him have since been quarantined as a precautionary measure -hoping to limit the spread of the virus. The county is trying to reach out to those the resident had been in contact with.

This afternoon I participated in a conference call with the County Executive, Commissioner of Health and other local officials and first responders. Please do not panic. Most people who contract Coronavirus will experience no symptoms at all. A very small fraction will face life threatening conditions.

I asked the the professionals what to do if you’re not feeling well.  This is the answer I received:

Call your Doctor. Don’t go to the Doctor’s office or urgent care-find out what they recommend first.

Before you go to the emergency room get direction from your doctor. They recommend you stay home unless you are experiencing difficulty breathing and have an extended fever.

NY State  has set up a hotline you can call. Phone number is  888 364-3065

the Greenburgh Police EMS is very prepared and is equipped to safely transport potential patients to emergency rooms if necessary.

I am meeting with a hospital administrator tomorrow and will obtain more information which I will share.  In the meantime if you have any questions that you can’t find answers to -feel free to e mail them to me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com and I will try to get you the answers.

I am sorry if you and your family are stressed over this. We will all do whatever we can do reduce your stress levels

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.  A "novel coronavirus" is a strain that has not been previously found in humans.

• Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause mild illnesses like a cold, to more serious illnesses like pneumonia.

• Infections with this new virus have been reported in many countries, including the U.S. For an updated list of affected areas, visit [cdc.gov/coronavirus]cdc.gov/coronavirus.

• The virus is likely to be spread from person to person, but it is currently unclear how easily it spreads.

• Commonly reported symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

• Most people (80%) with COVID-19 will feel like they have a bad cold or the flu. Some people will require hospitalization. People who are at most risk for severe illness are elderly or have other health conditions.
