Please note that 12/12 zoning bd meeting on Maplewood (proposed assisted living facility) has been postponed
Yesterday morning dozens of residents who live on or near Fort Hill Road joined the Police Chief, Commissioner of Public Works, Councilman Francis Sheehan and I on a walk reviewing the need for safety improvements on Fort Hill Road. News12 was there -and a link to the story is below.
During the walk we showed residents some of the challenges that have to be overcome for the sidewalk to be built.
Some residents who joined us at the walk (and who have expertise in engineering and construction) made a suggestion which we will review -along with other safety suggestions: The suggestion: make Underhill Road one way, narrow the road for motorists, consider traffic calming measures (like speed humps) and create a walking path on the side of the road. This would be less expensive than a sidewalk and would not result in residents losing part of their driveways and landscaping (which would be necessary if a sidewalk is built). The downside to the suggestion: cars that currently use Fort Hill Road will use other local roads. One resident suggested a one month test.
Our traffic safety professionals will review this -along with other suggestions. Some residents offered to be part of a team that will work with town officials so we can make Fort Hill a more pedestrian safe road . I had previously written to the Edgemont Community Council inviting them to be a part of a working group that will work with the town reviewing options. We are determined to make Ft Hill Road safer and want to partner with the community in coming up with the best solution. Other residents of Edgemont who have expertise in engineering, road safety, construction are invited to join the working group. E mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com if you want to be part of the solution.
