The Police Chief, Commissioner of Public Works, town officials and I will be conducting a walk on Ft Hill Road Saturday at 11 AM --from Longview to Underhill. We hope to build a sidewalk from Underhill to Longview and want to show residents who participate in the walk what needs to be done, challenges facing us, obstacles that have to be removed. We will discuss with residents the time line. Usually a sidewalk takes about 2 years from start to finish to complete. We plan to retain the services of a traffic engineer to design the sidewalk and will also have to survey the area to determine if private properties will have to be acquired by the town so we can comply with sidewalk standards.
Regarding other sidewalks that are proposed (there are many under consideration all over town)– the Commissioner of Public Works and Commissioner of Planning are currently reviewing the Comprehensive Plan. We will be developing a priority system for new sidewalks being considered. We anticipate that their analysis/priority will be completed in the spring. We will then be able to provide residents with a longer term schedule of when sidewalks will be added to streets in their neighborhood. And the reasons why some are going to built faster than others.
MESSAGE FROM THE POLICE CHIEF:
We will set up for the walk along Fort Hill Road prior to 11:00 AM with barricades and a police car at the corner of Longview / FT. Hill and a police car at the corner of Underhill / Ft. Hill. We ask that residents meet you at 11:00 AM, on Longview Dr. near FT. Hill Road to commence the walk. This is the best location for parking and staging.
