As a follow up to the original G-list notification below, the application has been scheduled by the Planning Board (not a public hearing) and Zoning Board (public hearing) for meetings in December. 

The Hartsdale Assisted Living Facility proposal (Maplewood Swim Club) is scheduled for discussion with the Planning Board at its December 4^th 8:00pm work session. This meeting is open to the public but is not a meeting for public comment. The Planning Board will likely hold a public discussion on this matter in the new year prior to making a recommendation to the Town Board. The Town Board will hold a separate public hearing in 2020, date to be determined. 

The Zoning Board of Appeals has the application (an area variance associated with the proposed building length) on its Thursday, December 12^th agenda for discussion. That meeting is a public hearing and available for the public to comment.

It is my policy to notify neighbors and the community of proposed developments. The Town recently received a special permit application for a new 115-unit Assisted Living Facility at 202 West Hartsdale Avenue, P.O. Hartsdale. The proposal involves the redevelopment of the site, which exists as a former swim club, to an Assisted Facility use. The project requires the following land-use board approvals: special permit (Town Board), site plan (Town Board, with referral to the Planning Board), steep slope permit (Planning Board), and area variances (Zoning Board of Appeals). The applicant previously appeared before the Town Board at a work session on November 13, 2018, which can be viewed here: http://greenburghny.swagit.com/play/11132018-733 Some of the concerns raised by Town Board members at that time included pedestrian connectivity (the need for a sidewalk on West Hartsdale Ave to Central Ave), the need for an affordability component, general traffic concerns, and questions regarding the view of the proposed building from surrounding areas.

On April 2, 2019, the applicant held a community meeting at Solomon Schechter school to present the project to residents.

Presently the proposal is in review with Town staff, Westchester County Planning Board, Hartsdale Fire Department, NYSDOT and an independent traffic consultant. The Town Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board meetings will all include public hearings.

Student Program: A Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor

The waterfronts of the Hudson River and the piers of New York Harbor bustled with activity on October 22nd as thousands of students armed with seine nets, minnow pots, and water testing gear collected data and studied the Hudson River during DEC’s 17th annual A Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor. From first grade to college-age, students participating in "Day in the Life" partnered with environmental education centers to collect scientific data using hands-on field techniques, capturing a snapshot of the river’s ecology. The program gives students the opportunity to don waders or use a fishing rod to catch and identify some of the Hudson’s 200-plus species of fish and myriad invertebrates. Most are young fish, evidence of the Hudson’s importance as a nursery habitat.

"A Day in the Life" is sponsored by DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program in partnership with the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. This year, nearly 5,000 students and educators from more than 100 schools will participate.
