sorry for the bad news -that we can't provide residents with extended pool hours after labor day
Reason why we can't keep pool open after Labor Day even though it's going to be hot for the next few days
I am very disappointed! I spoke with our Deputy Commissioner of Parks, Joe Lucasey earlier today about keeping the pool open for the next few days since it's going to be very hot. Unfortunately, we were unable to find enough lifeguards -according to Joe - who would have staffed the pool. There is a regional lifeguard shortage. An article in the NY Times on May 29th said that NYC is confronting its worst lifeguard shortage on record." An article in the Gothamist (August 11) said that "lifeguard shortage means that sections of most NYC pools are closed." Some lifeguards are high school students involved in sports. So they could not work this week.
I know how aggravating this is for many residents who had hoped that we could keep our pool open after labor day and want to express my apologies to you for not being able to offer you an extended pool operation after labor day.
CORRECT LINK TO GREENBURGH DIAPER DASH
This is the correct link to photos of the Greenburgh diaper dash. 17 participants. Lots of parents, grandparents cheering on the crawlers and walkers age 2 and under. The event was very successful. I encourage every community in Westchester to consider organizing a similar event for crawlers/small children The diaper dash participants in 2023 may become Olympic Gold Medal champs in twenty years. And, they got their start in Greenburgh. Feel free to use the photos. Gerry Byrne, Commissioner of Parks took the photos.
