Greenburgh Police Chief Brian Ryan met with the Town Board during our work session on Tuesday October 22nd to discuss last Friday's horrible accident on Central Ave/Lawton near Sacred Heart Church. All the members of the Town Board are determined to work with NYS to address traffic safety at this location. The crosswalk on this state road is dangerous. NYS Department of Transportation has already funded a crosswalk upgrade - a pedestrian activated flashing beacon light. But the timeline on the project is unknown. The accident should be a catalyst to expedite the upgrade. The traffic safety unit of the police will commence a selective enforcement operation in the vicinity of the 4 corners and the East Hartsdale Ave Rockledge Road intersection as well as the Hartsdale train station focusing on drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians while crossing the street within a pedestrian crosswalk. This will take place during morning and evening rush hours.
The chief highlights some additional initiatives that could take place. He shows on the video a possible traffic light that only activates when pedestrians are crossing the crosswalk. We also discussed the possible narrowing of parts of Central Ave near the crosswalk to slow down traffic. Other safety measures will be considered. The Town Board and I will be pressing our state lawmakers to give this the highest priority attention.
REMINDER- FREE WAFFLES TODAY AT HARTSDALE TRAIN STATION 5 PM TO 7 PM FROM NBCUNIVERSAL
A few weeks ago commuters were inconvenienced because of a filming of THE SINNER at the Hartsdale train station. NBCUniversal is making a nice gesture to the community: they are paying for a waffle truck to be at the Hartsdale train station today from 5 pm to 7 PM and will be offering residents/commuters free waffles as a gesture --apologizing for the inconveniences some people experienced. The truck was supposed to be at the train station yesterday but the truck broke down. They called to apologize and arranged for the truck to arrive today --same time, same place: Hartsdale train station.
