Noise camera's could help reduce loud, excessive noise from cars/motorcycles on Central Ave

Have you observed loud, excessive noise on streets near you? Please let us know.
What do you think about the suggestion for noise cameras? A way to enforce our noise law and improve your quality of life

A SUGGESTION SHOULD BE ELIMINATED THAT COULD PUT TO AN END EXCESSIVE VEHICLE/MOTORCYCLE NOISE ON CENTRAL AVE AND ON OTHER LOCATIONS

Over the years many residents of Greenburgh  have complained about excessive noise from cars with illegal mufflers  and motorcycles that are both racing and loud driving up and down Central Ave in the middle of the night.  Cars/motorcycles race each other -creating unbearable loud noises.  i have received similar complaints about loud noise on other streets as well.

Has your quality of life been impacted by the loud noise at night on your street? If yes, please e mail me the location and approximate times when the loud and excessive noise takes place. My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com.  Noise is an environmental hazard - a big quality of life problem. Something should be done.

On Monday former Westchester County Legislator Ruth Walter met with some Greenburgh town officials and other municipal officials around the county and proposed an innovative high tech system to enforce noise limits on  car owners whose vehicles  exceed noise levels. A British based company showed us videos of  a noise camera technology. The company, Intelligent Instruments has provided noise camera equipment to NYC, Miami and to some neighborhoods in Britain. The technology could enable the town and other communities that implement the program to  issue summons based on the noise camera documentation of excessive noise levels.

The noise camera would enable the town to issue tickets to offenders. Currently, NYS law does not authorize speed camera's in towns. But, the town has the authority to enforce our noise laws. So - we would not need state legislation.  Noise laws are difficult to enforce because the police can't be at every location in town where noise levels are excessive 24/7.  Sound cameras can.

A link to an article about the program can be found below:

I would like to encourage Yonkers, Greenburgh and White Plains to test out the noise camera initiative on Central Ave. I would also like to encourage residents who experience drag racing on streets within Greenburgh to contact me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com and highlight streets that could benefit with a noise camera. I would support a test program.

Thank you former Legislator Ruth Walter for setting up the meeting with town officials. Noise laws are very difficult to enforce. This experiment could solve a decades old problem that continues to disrupt many people's quality of life.
