Greenburgh is one of 29 communities in Westchester that has been participating in Sustainable Westchester's Community energy program. Around the fifth of each month I post on the town of Greenburgh website (www.greenburghny.com) comparisons between the Con Ed price (which can go up or down) and the Sustainable Westchester price which is fixed at 15.13 cents per kwh till October 2024.
Sustainable Westchester's rates continue to be higher than Con Ed's this month. Please note that Greenburgh and the other local government that have been participating in this program are purchasing green renewable energy. Green energy is more expensive than standard rates.
Last month, in response to a request from Greenburgh officials, Sustainable Westchester sent a letter to every ratepayer who has signed up for the ESCO advising them that Con Ed rates have been lower in recent months -- providing residents with information as to how they can opt out if they desire. Please note that although Con Ed rates are currently lower than the ESCO it's possible that in the coming months that Con Ed rates can be higher because they can go up and down each month.
The comparison prepared by Sustainable Westchester is below. Ratepayers have the ability to opt out anytime if they desire. If you are having trouble opting out you can also e mail me at email@example.com and I will follow up.
Greenburgh Residential Electricity Supply Rate Comparison - April 2023
Westchester Power Program Background
The Town of Greenburgh participates in a Community Energy Program known as Westchester Power. This electricity supply program is managed by the local nonprofit Sustainable Westchester on behalf of the 29 participating municipalities in Westchester County. The program empowers the county and its residents to actively work towards a vision for a healthy and sustainable future by supporting renewable energy. Residents benefit from the fixed price program model that provides cost control assurance on their electric supply charges.
The Westchester Power program offers two supply options for 100% Renewable and Standard. These rates are fixed until 10/31/2024.
