[ARCHIVED] Sad news: In memory of a wonderful man "Mitty"

Mitty made everyone smile. "You are the best." He was the best!

STATEMENT, PAUL FEINER

Although the name “Americo Carpenito” might not be readily recognizable to many of our residents, his nickname, “Mitty,” brings forth fond thoughts to many of a wonderful gentleman of great class and warmth, who assisted his devoted and loving daughter Tina for more than 30 years, at “Pas-Tina’s Ristorante,” on Central Park Avenue in Hartsdale.

I am saddened to inform you that unfortunately, Mitty passed away at the age of 94, just a few weeks ago. The family was of course devastated by the passing of their beloved father/grandfather/great grandfather/brother, as were and are the thousands and thousands of people Mitty “touched’ over his long and fulfilling life.

Mitty was above all elegant in every way, always impeccably dressed, eloquent, charming, handsome and for sure, “old time cool.” His extraordinary warmth, deep love of people, and of being around those he loved, enabled this special man of small physical stature, to present an enormous persona and endear himself to all who knew him. He was and is memorable!

Mitty’s family members have been residents and supporters of Greenburgh for decades, with Tina’s restaurant “Pas-Tinas” being a local institution, while Christopher, Tina’s son and Mitty’s grandson, who together shared an extraordinary bond and deep loving relationship, now serves as a member of the Greenburgh Police Department.

I believe that based upon the depth of character of this gentleman and his unwavering commitment to our Town, and the enormous number of relationships he garnered over his wonderful life, that it would be appropriate for we as a community to take a moment to recognize Mitty, his warmth, his charm and his life, remarkably well spent.

When my wife and I dined at the restaurant, Mitty would always thank us, in the same way he thanked every patron, by telling us “You are the best.” Well, we in Greenburgh are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend, Americo “Mitty” Carpenito, and one thing is absolutely clear, Mitty “was the best.”

With great respect and regard,

Paul Feiner
