A great opportunity for teens to make a great positive difference in the lives of others. Meeting October 15 @ 3 PM at the library
ROTARY PARTNERS WITH BRIDGING DOTS, GOOD FOR GIRLS, THE GREENBURGH LIBRARY AND
THE THEODORE D. YOUNG COMMUNITY CENTER TO COMBAT FOOD INSECURITY
AND ENGAGE LOCAL YOUTH IN COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Hartsdale Greenburgh Rotary will continue to partner with Bridging Dots, Good for Girls, the Greenburgh Library and the Department of Community Resources (DCR) at the Theodore D. Young Community Center (TDYCC) to combat food insecurity in Westchester through the Town of Greenburgh (TOG) Teen Task Force, an organization dedicated to engaging local youth in ongoing civic engagement.
In our first year, the Teen Task Force raised over $8500 to combat food insecurity, funneling most of the money into supporting the Caring Cupboard, a food pantry founded as a partnership with the Greenburgh Health Center. The Task Force also made a significant ‘down payment’ on the development of the Community Garden project in partnership with TDYCC, which when finished will be a source of healthy food for the community, as well as a multigenerational educational experience.
The first meeting of the Teen Task Force in the new school year will take place on Saturday, October 15 @ 3:00, in the multipurpose room at the Greenburgh Library (this will be a combined in-person/Zoom meeting). We’re looking forward to seeing all our student partners, and any teenage members of the Greenburgh community who’d like to join our efforts, at our meeting. The Task Force is performing valuable service in our community, and we look forward to expanding our program and addressing more of what is clearly a growing and ongoing need.
Bridging Dots and Good for Girls are school-age volunteer groups whose primary mission is to address food insecurity in our community. DCR/TDYCC has a nearly 55-year history of civic engagement and mentoring youth in this age group. This collaborative effort will increase the involvement of our young people in community and civil service, to prepare them for leadership roles and careers in local government.
As a part of Rotary International, the Hartsdale Greenburgh Rotary is a service organization for the town, the region, the county and the wider world. As a part of Rotary International, the Club’s world-wide mission is to promote peace through understanding and friendship.
