Madelon has devoted tens of thousands of hours over the decades -working hard to make Greenburgh a better place
This Friday December 3rd Westchester County will honor the regions top seniors and induct the seniors into their hall of fame. I previously reported that Lloyd Cort, former President of the Parkway Gardens Civic Association and head of our CDBG committee will receive the top honor. Lloyd is an exceptional community asset --who has made our town a much better place.
Among those who will also be inducted to the Westchester County Hall of Fame is Madelon O'Shea, one of the most dedicated community activists in our town. An expert on land use issues, Madelon has served as Chair of the Council of Greenburgh Civic Association. She also is the chair of the Historic and Landmark Preservation Board --having been appointed to that position by the Greenburgh Town Board. She and her late husband, Rod, have spoken at numerous Town Board meetings for decades --agreeing or disagreeing with town officials on matters of importance. A former President of the Edgemont Community Council, she was also a recipient of the Silver Box Award --the most prestigious award given to a resident of Edgemont for her community involvement.
Madelon has devoted tens of thousands of hours (that might be an understatement) over the decades to the town - expressing herself, motivating others to get involved, monitoring Town Board meetings, agreeing with the Town Board, disagreeing with the Town Board and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Before I was elected to any office Madelon was a presence at Town Board meetings!
Madelon is most deserving of this recognition. Democracy works best when there is oversight of government by our citizens. Madelon has always been a role model for citizen activists. She is constructive, respectful, armed with facts and passionate about the issues she feels strongly about.
We should all be thrilled that years ago both Lloyd Cort and Madelon O'Shea decided to make Greenburgh their homes. Our community is better because of them.
