Dan Welsh, program director of  Westchester Power, a program of Sustainable Westchester reports that ...The renewable electricity supply rate for Greenburgh residents in the Westchester Power program (7.41 cents/kWh) has been lower than benchmark Con Edison's default supply rate now for the past five months.  Con Edison's price for September averaged 8.10 cents/kWh. Last year Con Ed rates were lower than the Westchester Power rates that Greenburgh and many other communities signed up with.  This year residents who did not opt out of the Westchester Power ESCO are saving money!  While we can never say for certain where Con Edison's rates will be in the future, reports are that market forces are currently pointing upwards and that increases the possibility of continued advantageous performance of the fixed Westchester Power rate. We were fortunate to have locked in before these significant increases and are protected during this very uncertain time. Westchester Power rates can't go up or down during the contractual period. Con Ed rates fluctuate.  While our main goal is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change, these are helpful trends.
