Sanitation Regulations

With concerns of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we ask residents to keep in mind our Sanitation workers, who are still out collecting refuse each day. Please be reminded of the below regulations for collection. These regulations are always in place to keep our Sanitation workers safe and allow them to work efficiently.

• As of now, sanitation collection is operating on a normal schedule. Any changes to this will be posted on the Town website.
• Garbage must be placed in the Town issued garbage cart and left at the curb before 7:00 am on your designated pickup day. Garbage should be in bags, there should not be any loose items in your garbage cart. If you feel your current garbage cart does not meet your needs, please call (914) 989-1580 and we will arrange to get you a larger cart.
• Paper & cardboard recycling MUST be broken down, contained and left at the curb before 7:00 am on your designated pickup day. You may place paper and cardboard into an open, reusable container (NOT the Town issued garbage or recycling carts) or into a cardboard box. Material in plastic bags will NOT be accepted.
• Commingled recycling must be placed in the Town issued commingled cart and left at the curb before 7:00 am on Wednesdays. Items should be loosely placed in the bin without plastic bags. Material in plastic bags will NOT be accepted. If you feel your current recycling cart does not meet your needs, please call (914) 989-1580 and we will arrange to get you a larger cart.
• Yard waste, including leaves and branches, must be contained in either paper yard waste bags or an open, reusable container (NOT the Town issued garbage or recycling carts). Bags of yard waste cannot exceed 50 lbs. Material in plastic bags will NOT be accepted. Branches can also be bundled, so long as the length does not exceed 4 feet and the width of the bundle does not exceed 2 feet. Yard waste should be placed curbside by 7:00 am, it is collected Monday to Friday. The Town DOES NOT collect debris from private tree removals.

More information can be found on your 2020 sanitation calendar or on our Town website (https://www.greenburghny.com/199/Bureau-of-Sanitation)
