About DOROT: DOROT, which means “generations” in Hebrew, was founded in 1976.  

We provide a dynamic partnership of seniors, volunteers, and professionals dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults to help them live independently as valued members of the community. Our wide array of programs – conducted on-site, in the home and in the community – are designed to combat loneliness and social isolation. Compassionate care and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of our programs and staff.  

The older adults comprising the DOROT community range in age from 60 to over 100 and represent a diverse population. Approximately 6,000 volunteers of all ages are recruited every year to support DOROT’s staff of social workers and program and volunteer administrators to improve the lives and health of older adults and address the challenges of an aging society. 

About DOROT Westchester: Since 2004, DOROT Westchester has been providing programs and services to predominantly home-based older adults in Westchester.  With a team of social workers spearheading our work, and hundreds of volunteers committed to our mission we offer: Telephone Friends, Package Deliveries, Friendly Visiting, occasional home visiting opportunities, select group programming in-person and by phone, Intergenerational Chess, and Information &Referral services.  DOROT Westchester is on a growth trajectory, expanding the number of older adults served and programs offered.  

Position Summary:

DOROT Westchester seeks a dynamic, tech savvy, and hard-working individual to provide support and office assistance for the team.  The Program Administrator will work with the Director to streamline, support, and enhance day-to-day operations of the department, current programs and new growth opportunities.  The ideal candidate possesses good judgement. strong customer service and client engagement skills, an affinity for older adults, and has a track record in creative problem solving under pressure.  


1.    Be an important contributor and collaborator on the DOROT Westchester team.

2.    Be the team’s main point of contact for phone, email, and in-person, communication, demonstrating kindness, and professionalism at all times:

    Serve as receptionist for all calls inquires and guests.

    Respond to all requests from seniors and volunteers for information, referrals, and materials.

3.    Coordinate office logistics, maintain an inventory of office supplies and facilitate technology/equipment requests. 

4.    Help arrange and assist with Westchester programs and initiatives, from planning and execution of logistical preparations through follow-up phases.

5.    Support outreach efforts for volunteer and senior recruitment. 

6.    Input data, prepare reports and ensure the organization, accuracy and integrity of data using DOROT’s Client Information Management System (Salesforce platform), the Westchester County Peer Place system and Excel spreadsheets. 

7.    Develop and modify administrative systems and procedures for new and evolving program needs.

8.    Support the Director with analyzing data and program outcomes for funder and other reporting needs.

9.    Plan and manage logistical preparations for group programs. 

10.    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 


    Bachelor’s degree preferred; commensurate experience considered

    1-2 years of professional office and/or program experience

    Demonstrated ability to solve problems, work independently and integrate new learnings 

    Experience or interest in working with older adults

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

    Strong administrative, organizational and customer service skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and attend to details in a deadline driven, busy environment 

    Demonstrated effectiveness as a team player, who can work collaboratively and take initiative, as needed

    Availability to work approximately 4–6 Sundays per year for special events and Package Deliveries

    Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required, experience with Salesforce preferred

Housing Retention Counselor (HRC)

Position Purpose:

Provide assistance to the Program Coordinator in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the Eviction Prevention program.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Financial Assistance: The WRO General Housing (GH) team will assess clients who have been denied assistance by DSS and/or other referral sources and determine if qualified to receive assistance for eviction and utility arrears, first month???s rent, security deposits and/or moving expenses. The team???s assessment of financial viability will use the processes established as a nationwide standard established for HUD-Certified Housing Counselors. The team will provide financial assistance to those deemed eligible.

Utility Arrears: The GH team will assess clients to determine if they are eligible to receive utility arrears assistance provided that the household has received termination notice and termination will result in eviction or temporary displacement. The team must communicate with the various Funding Source Contacts prior to determining eligibility.

Mediation Services: The HRC and Program Coordinator will mediate between the landlord and tenant to resolve rent arrears in order to maintain tenant housing. The GH team will also work with Section 8 families to restore certificate if voucher has been rescinded.

Budget and Financial Education: The HRC will provide individual and group budget counseling and financial education using the forms and processes defined by HUD as best practices for HUD-Certified Housing Counselors.

Assessment and Referral: The Counselor will assess clients??? needs related to housing retention, develop a written Individual Service Plan (ISP) for each accepted participant, and link them to appropriate benefits, services and resources.

Case Management: The HRC will continue to help participants access new services and benefits to enhance financial self-sufficiency and housing retention for up to one year after providing emergency financial assistance. Part of our team???s focus will be on helping clients become linked effectively with ongoing case management or care coordination.

Co-Located Services: The HRC may be assigned to work out of co-located space in White Plains, Yonkers, Mt. Vernon and/or Peekskill. The HRC will also meet with clients as needed in WRO???s main office in White Plains or in other community settings, e.g. accompanying clients to meet with landlords to provide translation and advocacy services.

CoC Collaboration: The HRC will enter data appropriately into WRO???s HMIS & CMS software and follow all applicable CoC regulated policies.

Reporting & Billing: The HRC will maintain records and receipts for all program expenses and client documents.

Other Duties: The HRC will perform any other lawful and reasonable duties assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum job requirements for this position include a college Bachelor???s degree, at least 3 years of experience in Housing Counseling or a related field, bilingual fluency, both written and spoken, in Spanish and English is preferred, cultural competence to work effectively with our targeted clients, and a working knowledge of public benefits and entitlements. Preference will be given to candidates familiar with our target communities, those with access to a car for work-related travel throughout Westchester County and those currently possessing the HUD Housing Counseling certification or must complete the required online training and receive certification as a HUD-Certified Housing Counselor within the first six months of employment.


$45k-$50k annually
