LINK BELOW TO NYS BUDGET HEARING HELD AT GREENBURGH TOWN HALL--LAWMAKERS REACTED TO PROPOSAL FOR NYS TO REPAVE NYS OWNED ROADS IN GREENBURGH THAT ARE IN HORRIBLE SHAPE, AND COMMUNITY LEADERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTY DISCUSS OTHER IMPORTANT STATE ISSUES

On Thursday members of the Westchester delegation to the  NYS Assembly held a public hearing on the Governor’s proposed budget.  The legislature has until April 1 to approve a budget.

The town taped the entire hearing which can be watched on the following links. I spoke about the need for the state to repave NYS state roads within Greenburgh and to conduct an inventory of roads they own. My presentation  and the responses from members of the Assembly can be seen –first presentation, part one below.  Assemblywoman Sandra Galef suggested that the time has come for NYS to place on the ballot a road infrastructure bond act. If voters would approve a bond act it would enable the state and local governments to do much more --repaving roads that are in horrible shape. I have been pushing for that for at least two years --we can't ignore infrastructure needs. What do you think?

A list of the speakers is posted below with the approximate time they spoke.  A special thanks to the members of the Assembly who listened to speakers and to Assemblyman Tom Abinanti who represents Greenburgh.

The last time New York State repaved any roads they own in Greenburgh was close to 4 years ago (although they promise to repave Hillside this spring).

Last year our engineers compiled a report (which I have forwarded to your staff highlighting conditions of some of the NYS roads located in Greenburgh.  Conditions have deteriorated since the report was completed.  For example - 100 B--- Dobbs Ferry Road is in horrible shape (between Knollwood and Tarrytown Road). Numerous potholes.  Saw Mill River Road (9A) is an embarrassment.  Our engineers took photo's and analyzed conditions on Route 100 (Central Ave), Knollwood Road, Hillside and Route 119. There are sections of Broadway in the river villages that also need repaving.

A problem --the staff of the NYS Department of Transportation is excellent. Their employees and team work hard. But, they don't have the staff to quickly respond to complaints we forward to them.

The New York State Legislature needs to do two things: appropriate more funds to the regional office of the NYS Department of Transportation so they have adequate staff to address road conditions on NYS roads.  And --appropriate adequate funds so that the many roads that NYS owns that have deteriorated are milled and repaved.

NY State should conduct an annual inventory of all infrastructure and road conditions that they own and present the report to the Legislature -putting state lawmakers on notice conditions of each roads.
