Student intern Benjamin Mann spent a month working in the Planning department. He bicycled up and down the length of the Greenburgh portion of Central Ave, taking photo's of vacant storefronts, talking to property owners, merchants and residents. He concluded his internship by preparing an analysis of his findings and recommendations -what he thinks the town should do to make Central Ave a more successful business district. He also prepared a you tube video which I hope you will watch before heading back to Europe, where he resides permanently.
A Final Resting Place for “Man’s Best Friend”:The Peaceable Kingdom.
By: Riley Wentzler &Felicia Barber
Do dogs have immortal souls, as reflected in the common phrase, “All dogs go to Heaven”? This theological question is one that is interesting to debate, but one which is best left for people who are more knowledgeable than either of the authors of this series to answer. However as any dog owner will tell you dogs are more than just pets, they are family!!! Regardless of whether or not they have immortal souls, they like any other family member, deserve a proper burial when they pass away. So where would you bury your beloved four-legged family member if you live in Greenburgh? The answer is The Hartsdale Canine Cemetery otherwise known as The Peaceable Kingdom located on 100 North Washington Avenue Hartsdale, New York 10530. This is the first pet cemetery in the United States. It was founded in 1896 by Dr. Samuel Johnson, a veterinarian from New York City. It is the final resting place for over 80,000 dogs (https://petcem.com/history/). It is also the only pet cemetery to appear on The National Register of Historic Places (https://petcem.com/#about). This family owned and operated canine cemetery even allows grieving pet owners to arrange funeral services prior to interment (https://petcem.com/faq/). To see the wide selection of both caskets and headstones which the Hartsdale Canine Cemetery offers go to https://petcem.com/services/. To schedule a burial and/or funeral service call (914) 949-2583.
